Part-time Butcher
Block & Bottle is an award winning butchers and craft beer shop located at the Gateshead end of the High Level Bridge. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our small team as a part-time butcher.
All our meat is free range and is sourced as locally as possible, from Durham and North Yorkshire with the majority being rare breeds. We buy in whole carcass and break it down on site as well as making our own sausages, burgers, bacon and many other products from scratch. We also cure and ferment a range of charcuterie products on site and are in the process of launching a specialist charcuterie company. If selected for this role, and if required, you will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of what we do from Steven who has been in the industry for over 13 years.
At Block & Bottle we are obsessive about good quality meat and beer, in order to be considered for this role you must share our passion for both these things!

Requirements for the position

  • Previous butchery or chef experience

  • Knife skills

  • Good Maths and English

  • Strong communication

  • Excellent customer service

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Full Clean driving license (Desirable)

  • You must be over 18

  • You must be able to demonstrate you have right to work in the UK

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of raw meats – breaking down whole carcass for final products

  • Preparation of charcuterie products

  • Set up of cabinet displays

  • Serving customers for meat and beer

  • Cleaning and maintaining to our high standards for the shop and food prep areas.

  • Delivery driving (if hold a driving license)

The successful candidate will report to both Steven and Katie, and will learn butchery under the guidance of Steven if required.

This job is for a 20-hour a week position to start. Over the Christmas period you will be required to work more hours as needed.

The salary for this job is above minimum wage and based on experience, we are working towards being a living wage Foundation employer.
